VWO allows you to target specific visitor groups through your tests. This selected group of visitors is called visitor segments, and the targeting can be done while setting up a test or modifying an existing test.
When you target a visitor section, the only visitors who qualify for the conditions set for the segment will take part in the test. By default, if a visitor qualifies and becomes part of a segment, the targeting conditions are not checked for the visitor again.
To target a visitor segment for an existing test:
- Login to your VWO account.
- From the Testing section, select a test for which you want to set up variation targeting. The test summary page appears.
-
Go to Configuration > Audience and Traffic. From this section, you can target specific visitor segments through the test.
You can choose from one of the three primary targeting options available:
-
Using Copilot
Leverage the Copilot feature to automatically generate intelligent segments based on your data and usage patterns. This option is ideal for quick setup and AI-driven recommendations. For more information, see Using Copilot for Segments and Triggers in VWO.
NOTE: This feature is available for Growth (limited to pre-segmentation only), Pro, and Enterprise plans under the Early Access program. Contact your account manager or VWO Support for more details regarding early access. - Using Standard Segments
Choose from a library of pre-defined standard segments that cover common criteria, such as location, device type, operating system, or visitor type. This option is best for quick starts or when your requirements align with common patterns. For more information, see Using Standard Segments in VWO. - Creating a Custom Segment
Define your own segmentation logic based on custom attributes, filters, or business rules. This option offers the highest flexibility and is best for teams with clear segmentation requirements not covered by standard options. For more information, see Defining Custom Visitor Segments in VWO.
-
Using Copilot
Start with the approach that best aligns with your immediate priorities, and evolve your segmentation strategy as your requirements grow.
TIP: You can specify the traffic percentage you want to include in the test. In the Traffic Allocation section, move the slider from left to right to increase the traffic percentage, or manually enter the percentage in the text box. For example, if your website receives 100 visitors a day and you want to run the test through just 20 visitors, specify the percentage as 20%. For more information, see How Does VWO Calculate the Percentage of Traffic to Be Included in a Test?
